Winter Landscapes

Winter can be looked upon as a dull and un-interesting season as far as landscape photography is concerned. With muted colors, no foliage and bad light, it is not surprising that winter landscape photographs are often restricted to ones with snow.

Each season has it's own character. Winter offers many qualities that other seasons don't:

• Trees without leaves resemble sculptures.
• Woodland floors have more light, allowing more sunlight and contrasting shadows to reach the forest floor.
• The sun is much lower in the sky (see photo below) offering different lighting of the landscape, with longer shadows.
  
• Leafless trees don't obscure views.
• There are fewer people around to get in the way (this one is for people like me, who don't really want to see people in a 'natural' landscape.
  

So get out there, don't wait until spring!
